High-Dynamic-Range photographs are generally achieved by shooting the same image several times using exposure bracketing. Once the images are taken several times at different exposure levels they are then merged together into one HDR image.
However, I've used Photoshop with Topaz Adjust 4 plugin to get the same effect.
